About NCHIA

The North Carolina Homicide Investigatorís Association (NCHIA) was formed in 1994. It grew out of a June 1994 working group in Raleigh, NC organized by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) and a number of NC homicide investigators in response to a series of unresolved prostitute homicides. Approximately sixty local, state and federal investigators, lab technicians and analysts attended the initial meeting. The setting allowed us to identify multiple cases committed across jurisdictions and set the stage for the formation of the North Carolina Homicide Investigatorís Association.

The purpose and objectives of the NCHIA, as defined in the association by-laws are: to provide homicide investigators an opportunity to exchange information relative to homicide investigations and to encourage such exchange of information; to support and encourage regular training sessions, workshops and special investigative seminars; for information relating to current and unsolved homicides within the state of North Carolina and the dissemination of such information through regular group meetings and publications; to establish a network for other law enforcement agencies across the United States to access information; To establish a network for other law enforcement agencies across the United States to access information; to promote quality homicide investigations within the state of North Carolina through the training, communication, support and encouragement of the associationís members.

The association is a non-profit organization whose officers include a president, vice president, treasurer, executive secretary and a seven-member board of directors, as well as, an advisory board of past presidents. The NCHIA makes an effort to insure all members have access to quality training by having a Fall training conference in November at the Coast and a Spring training conference in March in the Mountains. The Conferences also allow time to network with other Investigators and present open cases for assistance from the membership.
